Scientists have found that many acupuncture points are related to nerve bundles or muscle trigger points. By stimulating these points pain and discomfort are minimized and calmness is heightened. Looking at this specialized MRI scan, the two top images show a healthy brain. The middle images show a patient with carpal tunnel syndrome noting the red and yellow spots indicating pain. The bottom images, after receiving acupuncture, show the pain was diminished and calmness represented by blue.
